STAMFORD — From visiting a garden center to dropping by a lot at Stamford High School, there are a number of options for Stamfordites who don’t want to travel far to get a Christmas tree this year.

High Ridge NurseryNorth Stamford is one example of a place that offers premium Fraser fir trees sourced from the Carolinas. Sizes vary from 5 feet to 15 foot, but nursery owner Jennifer D’Amico said there were only a handful of 10- to 15-foot trees available. Prices start at $100, and the highest trees can be purchased for as much as $750.

D’Amico said her business is charging similar prices as last year, despite Freight costs are higher.

“We just wanted to be customer friendly because we have a nice following up here,”She said.

Springdale Florist & GreenhousesCamp Avenue in Darien ordered its trees from a farm in Canada. Mickey Doyle, co-owner, said that the trees took longer than expected to arrive due to delays at the border and then the truck breaking down. The trees arrived at the family business on Wednesday, and they were grateful.

Springdale Florist’s Fraser fir, balsam-fir and Cook pine trees are between 4 and 12 feet high. Doyle said that prices are still being finalized but that he expected them all to be. “higher than usual — because everything is higher.”
