Ryobi 730 CFM Blower Delivers Top Tier Power with Unbelievably Low Sounds
Although cordless blowers claim low noise, they have been gaining in quality as the performance standards rise. The Ryobi 40VHP Brushless 730 CFM Leaf Blower claims to have both legitimate power as well as incredibly low noise. We decided to test these claims against other battery-powered leaf blowers.
- High-tier blowing force
- It is extremely quiet for its performance level.
- Kit comes with 2 4.0Ah batteries.
- Flexible nozzle resists damages and can be cut to maximize performance
- No significant drawbacks
Ryobi 40V HP Brushless 730 CFM Leave Blower Performance
700 CFM was a significant barrier. Ryobi’s HP Brushless blower has now reached 730 CFM. You can reach speeds of up to 190 MPH depending on the nozzle you use.
Newton force is used to determine what that number means in comparison to other blowers. A fully charged battery allowed us to reach 11.3 N at high speed. Turbo enabled us to reach 20.0 N.
It actually gets even better. The flexible nozzle on our blower can be cut to trade some airspeed for CFM. The total force was 21.7 N when the first section of flexible nozzle was removed.
Only five cordless blowers we’ve tested have hit the 20 N mark, and Ryobi is responsible for two of them. The other is Ryobi’s 40V backpack blower. To date, that’s the most force we’ve seen from any blower out of the box. We have only had one blower test that was more severe. However, we had to use a battery so heavy that we don’t recommend that configuration.
In terms of runtime we got 15 minutes and 5 seconds at high throttle in high, and 10 minutes and 32 seconds with Turbo activated. This is a bit shorter than some other blowers we tested. Ryobi’s kit includes two 4.0Ah batteries. This gives Ryobi significantly longer runtime than other high-performance options which only have one battery.
When you see noise level ratings on blowers, it’s based on an ANSI standard for bystanders. We like to test at our operator’s ear to see what it’s like for the person actually using it. Most battery-powered blowers run more than 80 decibels and the high-performance models top out in the 85 – 88-decibel range.
If you’re used to blowers at that level, you won’t believe how quiet the Ryobi 40V HP Brushless blower sounds at 72 decibels in high and just 76 decibels in Turbo! It’s not just quiet for a high-performance model, it’s quiet compared to nearly every cordless blower we’ve tested.
Based on ANSI tests the blower is rated as 57 decibels.
There’s a lot of engineering that goes into making the design that quiet. While it’s only part of the picture, the most obvious sound-dampening comes from the foam you can see from the rear of the blower.

Weight and balance
The blower is 6.4 lbs without the battery. The 4.0Ah battery makes it 9.7 lbs. If you want to go with the higher-capacity 6.0Ah pack, you’re looking at 10.7 pounds.
The blower is 40 3/4 inches long, including the flexible nozzle. The blower is balanced and maintains a good downward angle under load. The heavier 6.0Ah batteries can cause the weight balance to shift slightly.
